Default 3000 rpm rev limit-Please help

ok bought the car (96 accord vtec 5-spd coupe) 6 months ago and ever since its never revd over 3k. i thought it was the ckp but switched it and it made no difference. a friend told me its a vtec issue and for some reason i dont have a oil pressure plug on the harness for the one on the solonoid. does this mean its had an engine swap, wrong selinoid and how do you ID the engine? please help.

The engine id should be right next to the headers on the block portion of you engine.

what is the trim of your car lx,ex....ect?

if it's a single cam vtec you have a f22b1. very we could have been swapped.

Try reading this see if it helps....

ok it does have the f22b1 engine. it is an EX trim so that should be the engine for that car. i also have the surging idle on cold startups like the other guy. but still cant find the plug for the vtec solenoid. and still rev-limited to 3000rpm. what else could it be?

See the wire hanging from the top of the vtec solenoid? That is the wire...but it looks like it has been replaced before. That’s why you might not have a plug anymore. They might have just snipped it off and wired it directly. Or you can try and trace that wire and see if you find a plug
