If you swapped an f23a1 you'd only be gaining about 20 extra HP. I haven't ever heard of anyone who swapped an f23a1 into a 5th gen before so I can't answer your question. An H22 fits right in though.

I dont think the H22 is the swap for you, it gets 22/26mpg, but it requires premium gasoline. I wouldnt swap and engine just to gain 20hp, just do some bolt ons on the engine you have.

i'm about 99% sure the f23 is midrange vtec anyways which mean it does nothing for power, so that isnt the engine you would feel it with anyways.

I have to disagree (especially if you are driving a manual trans car.) Based on videos from a member on another forum who installed a VTEC indicator light on his 6th gen, the VTEC engages anywhere from 2200 to 4500 RPM and stays engaged until you shift to the next gear. It depends what gear you are in. Sometimes I can tell it is kicking in, and sometimes not. I would not buy another Accord unless it was VTEC.
I would not imagine it would be incredibly noticeable in an automatic though, unless you manually shifted through the gears(1-2-D3-D4), and I know that is a controvertial subject with a long thread dedicated to it.
BUT, I would not go through the hassle of an engine swap for a measly 20 extra hp.

Really? Maybe it's all in my head then. I wish I could test drive a non-vtec and then test drive a v-tec to see if I could tell the difference.
Here's an engine comparison:
f22(non vtec from a 96 LX) 130hp @ 5200rpm, 144ft lbs torque @ 4000rpm
f23A1 (LEV VTEC from 98-02 LX or EX) 150hp @ 5700 rpm, 152 ft lbs torque @ 4900 rpm
I guess I just assumed that would be a noticeable difference.

I know in the 94-97 it's only a SOHC vtec so you'll feel it less (sorry if someone already posted this... I haven't refreshed for a while)
