'98 Honda Accord 4 cylinder transmission
I'm new to this board so forgive me if this has already been mentioned. I have a 98 Accord with 147k miles. I've been experiencng problems with the acceleration. Check engine light came on a week ago. Had the car checked on Monday, was told i need a new transmission. I've gotten qouted as low as $750 and high as $2,500. I don't have a lot of money and am leaning towards the lowest quote. What should i do?
Unfortunately, the auto-transmission in that generation isn't very strong. It might be true that you need a new trans, but you should not be afraid to go to a different shop for another opinion.
Describe the "problems with the acceleration".
Honda autos DO NOT LIKE to be power-flushed. Drain & fill with Honda brand ATF.

I would flush the transmission fluid and put new honda automatic transmission fluid in. Would be the cheapest way, but then again it might not solve it. Had the same problem with my gf's accord. But then depends how bad the transmission is, we ended up buying another used transmission and still had the same problem. I would go with a rebuild imo. $1000 went to waste and we could've took it to a shop to rebuild for the same price
