99-02 Transmission Issues
Hi, I am looking to buy a used car, mid 2000's with around 100k miles. The Accord is at the top of my list of possibilities. I have been reading that the 99-02 models have had widespread transmission issues, and even that they continued into the redesigned '03 models.
Does anyone have any good info on this or have any opinions? Are the Accord transmission issues as bad as the Acura TL issues from the same time period? It seems like on the internet I can find horrible and incredible info on every single car model, so it is hard to decide.

I personally would not buy a 98-02 Accord with an automatic transmission, the risk is just too high. It seems like we get a new member or two every month here with a vehicle of that generation with a failing transmission.
There are probably more that are fine than that are not, but to me the cost of replacement is just too high to risk. The horror stories of transmission replacements once a year are just overwhelming.
As far as the TL goes I personally don't have any personal knowledge, but I assume its probably the same transmission.

I agree Jim, I have seen some guys with modified civics making 500+hp on the stock transmission, and been running it for a year or more.
