I'm new to this forum , need some help . My main pulley has a very obvious wobble , changed out pulley and it wobbled even more . did timing belt and balance shaft and put everything back the way it came off . still wobbles . did everything to spec . We can't figure it out . Also took off pulley and ran it , and the crank is spinning true and straight .

Unless crank pulley is damaged, the only source of wobble is the crankshaft. A bad main bearing might allow enough wobble to be observable. Have you checked for end play of the crankshaft?

It may be that accessory belt load is necessary to cause wobbling.

no damage to crank pulley, checked that . wouldn't a bad main bearing have a knock or engine vibration ?

 

I can't say whether a loose main bearing would cause a knock. I know that some do, but perhaps not in every case.

Runout limit on the engine is tiny (0.002-inch) so any significant lateral endplay indicates a problem w/ a main bearing.

By wobble do you mean the pulley is not rotating smoothly in a single plane or is wobbling side/side in same plane. It could be that improper pulley (too large ID on pulley opening) would allow wobbling to occur. If pulley fits snugly, then crankshaft must be source of wobble (runout).
