Automatic transmission Gear shifting slips! pls help me
hello guys im new here.i need advices regarding to this problem im having lately. i have an all stock 1998 Honda Accord LX 4cyl Sedan with 204,000 miles on it.i just bought it from a friend of mine. very smooth ride no weird noises or anything anywhere from the car.perfect ride.after a week i notice when i start the car in the morning without warming the engine up, as soon as i put it to Drive mode the first gear goes fine towards the 2nd gear then its sounds like it slips and revs goes up with no acceleration for 4 seconds while running then suddenly goes to the 3rd gear and fine towards up. its like Delaying the gear shifting between 2nd gear and 3rd gear. this only happens once in a while when i start the car right away and go without warming it up in the morning when the engine is cold.i know its bad for a car with 200k miles but it was times i was running late.BUT....when i warm it up for 10mins then run i dont get the problem that much. sure it does sometimes when im running around 30-40mph and suddenly press the gas to pull quickly, then i get the DELAYING problem too.is it the transmission? transmission gear box, or anything about the gear switching stuff.see im not that good on fixing cars but i hope u guys can give me a good headstart to look at to fix this trouble i so called "GEAR DELAYING OR SLIPPING" whatever you guys call it..pls help me pleeease! THANK YOU ALL! i hope to hear from you guys asap before this gets worse.i love my accord its very reliable

98-03 are known for having bad auto trans. Sounds like you might have some crap in the fluid...how does it look? are you using honda ATF? I would try and do a drain and fill and see how much crap is in your fluid. Make sure you DONT POWER FLUSH THE TRANS. You will tear it up if you do. Drain and fill only...ONLY USE HONDA ATF ALWAYS.
Also plz be patient not everyone who can help lives on the forum. Sometimes you might have to wait couple day’s be4 someone will respond.

1. honda dealer they are like 8-9bucks a qt.
2. 4 or 5 qts
3. its very easy to do. There is drain plug on the pass side near the fender well. It has a square hole only bolt on your car like it. You can only turn the bold with the socket wrench (without a socket/ you will see what I mean when you locate your drain plug) Remove the plug then let the fluid drain. Make sure to clean the drain plug too as its magnetic and collects all the metal shavings from your trans wearing.
4.You only need the fluid and a socket wrench and a funnel (one with a hose works the best)
You should know where your dip sticks it for your trans that’s where you fill up the trans with fluid. IF you don't know where it is. It's located left of the radiator (if your looking into the engine bay) down on the trans. Should have a yellow or maybe orange top on the dip stick

seafoam in your gas tank is good It says you can put it in your crank case be4 a oil changed. DONT DO IT..it's not worth striping your engine seals b/c then they fail.
seafoam is some good stuff. But if got very expensive. It use to be like 3 bucks a can now it's like 10bucks a can. I use Lucas injector cleaner...works really really well much safer on your engine and it's cheap. Walmart sells it now too! so that a huge plus cus then didn’t use to se;ll it. It's also much cheaper for how much product you get. It's 10bucks for a qt. and the qt. will last you a while.
