'94 Automatic Shifter "Slips"
Precisely one year ago I received my 1994 Honda Accord LX 2.2L Automatic from my brother who, himself, was probably the 3rd owner of the car. What we both noticed was that you can bump the shift lever into another gear without hitting the button on the side. Is that supposed to happen? If not, should I be worried?

Should NOT be able to bump it into reverse. Into neutral, yes. Maybe downshift from D to D3, 2, 1.
That is in the mechanism at the base of the shift lever - not inside the tranny. Dismantle the console & see if you can figure it out. Im not much of an auto-tranny expert.
As long asYOU can resist the temptation to shift into REVERSE at 50mph, it should be OK.

On my 95, I could bump it into N and D3, but 2 and 1, along with P and R required the button to be pressed. If you are driving above 30 MPH, if you accidentally shift into R, the transmission will ignore the command and go to N, but it will seem as if you are in reverse (R lights up, back up lights on). I have tested this myself, and it works great at scaring the poo out of tailgaters
