Default Engine Swap

Hi All,

I have a 02 Honda accord 4cyl 5 speed that i want to swap out the engine from a 98 honda accord 4cyl 5 speed. Is this possible? I have heard that you can identify the engine type with the vin number. How do i do this? Thank you.

Welcome to HAF.

The 4 cyl between those two are almost the same. There are going to be some small things that you will need to keep/swap from your 02. Example, the 98-99 used a sensor for the gauge temp unit where the 00-02 used the ECT....so the 98 will have a sensor on the end of the head you will not need in your 02.

There are vin decoders - one here on the site - that you can put your vin into and you should find out the engine family - I think the biggest thing you want to know is the ULEV vs the other (sorry, can't think of it right now).
