HELP! Accord 2004 4cyl. and only 223 miles to the tank
HELP...I just recently found this site trying to research why my Accord 2004 EX 4 cylinder is only doing 223 miles to the tank. I think my MPG is HORRIBLE! None of my engine lights is coming on, the car has been serviced properly. Has 45,000 miles and in great condition. I've talked to some mechanics and they tell me that due to gas prices I'm just overly sensitive to MPG but I'm not crazy here, 223 is WAY too low MPG for an Accord. Oh, it's an automatic transmission. One thing to note is that I've never done fuel injection flush but a mechanic told me that this would not make a drastic change on MPG. Today I had the thought that someone may be stealing my gas, but I doubt it. Can you guys help or give me any ideas? I had the oil changed about 2 months ago and mechanic didn't tell me that anything was obviously wrong.
Oh, I drive mainly in the city, only about 10 miles a day, but still with the Accord having a 16 gallon tank, that means I'm only getting about 14 miles a gallon, that's aweful! My friend has a Maxima 99 6 cylinder and he's making 310 miles to the tank. Remember, mine is a 4 cylinder.

Dont assume 16 gallons.
Reset trip odometer when you fill.
Read miles next time you fill, & use actual gallons from gas pump.
Reset trip odometer again for next time.
And the single most important thing that influences gas mileage is your own right foot.

If you do 10 miles a day, your MPG is going to be very low. If you warm the car up, even lower. Drive slow with the AC on ... even more gas consumed. Sit at red lights much? That cost gas.
I had a 2000 V6 sedan and I averaged about 18.5 MPG including warming it up for about 10 minutes via auto-start, pinning 7k rpms at least once a day (more like at least once a drive) and only driving 10 miles a day (old, closer park and ride).
For a well-beaten on tank of gas, I could get as low as 220 to a fill.

Yeah if i drive through the city a LOT, and with lots of traffic (in dallas we have LOTS of traffic) i get craptastic mileage.. 210-230mi/Tank... When i drive highway, i easily get 320-350.
Speaking of.. the gauge is a lil whack... I usually hit 110miles at 1/4 tank - which would lead most ppl to believe theyc ould get over 440 miles to the tank.. but halfway through the gauge it's only about 150... very deceiving.
