its still a matter of, if you learn the operation of one engine, its learning the differences of another engine, which is that 20% if we were just comparing engines, then that 20% would be more like 40% or more, but its just a reference of the whole car in the end. Its not like your going to have to relearn half of your car when you goto a different engine.

as a side note, ill probably learn desiel engines before i take a shot at a rotary engine...... even though i like the design of the rotary...... i just cant get past the fact its a freaking spiralgraph......

sounds like a good idea to me, because rotary engines arent used 1/4 as much as diesels, although i think a properly designed and built rotary engine is the best thing out there when it comes to things such as power & such.

Considering its the only engine in a car that gets power for 270degrees of rotation for the rotars. Dont get me wrong, when i actually looked up how a rotary engine worked it blew my mind, i mean seriously, 3 moving parts in an engine, the guy who cam up with that is just an amazing person. The downside is the the fact that there is no chance for real gas economy off of those, after all they have to maintain a much higher rpm for idle otherwise theres a chance of critical engine failure.

Rotary engines are compact and powerful but their apex seals are their weakness. These have improved but a piston engine will usually outlast a rotoary before needing major repairs. Every single engine design has it's drawbacks and advantages

alright so I was reading this and thinking I'm not much better... I've owned 4 - 1981 chevy citations, 1995 Pontiac Grand AM, 1991 Cadilac Sedan DeVille, 1990 Olds Cutlass Calais ,1981 GMC Eagle, and the three cars I currently own plus the 2000 Dodge Durango SLT I just bought... I know what you mean by enjoying messing with different cars... the theory of how they work and how to work on them is the same accross the board but there are differences in how they operate....
