manual vtec switch????
Alright everyone, I have a 2001 Honda Accord Ex 2.3L vtec engine. I've been reading about people installing manual vtec switchs on their accords or even civics. My question is would it help acceleration or anything if I turned it on sooner than when it normally kicks in? Would it do anything at all beside possibly destroy my engine? What are cons of this? are there any pro's of this? I'm just trying to see what I can do to get vtec to kick in sooner!
Thanks in advance!

Agree with Poorman212, the other thing you have to take into account is the resonance in the intake system which aids volumetric efficiency. If you enable the VTEC system early, you will be doing so at too low of an RPM and you will actually lose volumetric efficiency and as such, power.
Long story short, enabling VTEC early will make your Accord slower.

Think of it as switching between 2 different camshafts. One works better at low RPM, but runs out of breath at high RPM. The other works better at high RPM but has no guts at low RPM. You switch at the point where the 2nd cam begins working BETTER than the 1st.
Why would you want to switch to the high-RPM camshaft before it reaches the point where it's better than the low-RPM cam?
