My engine is leaking oil, need help asap
I just recently purchased a 1990 Honda Accord LX that I bought to drive back and fourth to work and after only 300 miles it seems to have a serious oil leak and need help. I just replaced the oil plug and filter and was hoping that would help, but to no avail. It appears to be leaking right above the oil pan right where the bottom pully is, i assume this is the timing belt housing. There is oil seeping down from in there, what could this be? Seal on the crank? Please someone help me so when i take it to the shop they dont run around and tell me its something else.
yea if its coming from there its the seals in there. get them fixed quick and make sure they put the special retainer in there. you can easily ruin the motor if the seal pops out, which it sounds like it did. dont drive the car anymore have it towed
190k but the previous owner told me he had it changed in the last 5000 miles, but they might not have replaced the seals, so i quess to the Honda shop it goes
no they might not have put the retainer in there. problem is now that the oil has probably splashed on the timing belt which will reduce its lifespan considerably.
I think im just gonna get the whole service done to be on the safe side. I would feel more comfortable knowing all of that will be good for years to come. I will let you guys know what it is when they tear into it on monday
