maybe this is an obvious question but no ones metioned it so here goes...

when shifting 1-D4 are you guys pushing the accelerator down the whole time or are you letting off the gas in between shifts?

 

it would make sense to me that you would keep the accelerator down the whole time because thats the way the tranny shifts anyway, but i could be wrong.

 

i wouldnt see a reason to let off the accellerater(sp?) its an automatic so theres no clutch or anything to worry about.

but if youre driving "normally" without the manual shifting, ive noticed that if youre up to a certain speed but you want the transmission to "shift" a little early you can let off the gas for like half a second and itll kinda "shift" itll even have that crazy manual shifting jerk to it. hahaha it kinda hard to explain

 

yea ive noticed that too... but it does that for me in any gear. most likely because the TCU assumes your no longer accelerating when you let off the gas and it upshifts for obvious reasons.

 

this is great ammo for when my friends rag on me for shifting. BTW im telling them that your all CertifiedHonda mechanics and have been so for 30 years. so if anyone asks thats the answer, got it?

I was wondering the same thing. So the short answer to this question is auto shifting isn't that bad for the tranny and you can do it without any harm?

 

trust me you dont want to be doing that as a habit it happened to me in 99 accord ex 2.3lt ulev v-tec 4-door and i killed the a/ttranny on my way to school loli took it to a trani shop and they took the trani down oppened it up and the bearings, 2.3.4 gears were gone with the clutches all burnt up i had metal shavings inside the torque converter i needed a new steel module, 2nd gear pressure solenoids, 1linear solenoid pack, oil switch, bearings, and 2 3-way shift solenoids.all for a woping 3,000.

 

a 6th gen auto tranny can blow itself apart at any time for no reason at all. Smooth shifting won't hurt it, but slamming gears will. I usually only downshift and upshift only 1-2, but I used to shift every gear and have not had any problems. I hate the 6th gen AT because it's keeping me from making the car real fast! The engine is a beast, but the tranny sucks!
