Default smoke

i just recently got a 91 honda accord lx. the problem i am having is on startup it pours out this white smoke. it does this until the car is warmed up say like five minutes or so then it clears up.the car does not run hot or anything. i checked the water its full i checked the oil and its full. and there doesnt appear to be any oil in with the water which would probably mean head gasket. its like a oil smell also i thought white smoke was coolant. any suggestions or help greatly appreciated. thank you daniel

In cool weather it's not unusual for steam to be produced at the end of the exhaust pipe, until the pipe heats up.I don't know what the smell is, but my bet is that it's unburnt fuel because the engine is in cold start mode where the ECU richens the mixture (quite a lot).

yeah i know its normal for some steam to come out but this is not steam this really bad white smoke. i was just curious if it could be the head gasket, valve stem seals or something else like i said it dont run hot or anything

If it's a leaking head gasket then the coolant level will fall sooner or later. With a cold engine check both the coolant level in the rad and in the overflow tank. You won't always get oil and coolant mixing with a leaking HG...
