stock engine turbo'd or h22a swap?
so I need some advice, I HAD a 95 accord sedan, EX, it was auto so I ended up getting rid of it. Im looking into getting another one, 94-95, probably coupe, stick, question being should i go for a clean stock accord to turbo in the future or one with a junk motor and do the h22a swap then focus on beefing that engine? I can find a decent clean one for around 1800 with reasonably low miles for the year, but could grab one with a junk motor for a couple hundred bucks. Ive seen a few vids on youtube of the h22a's turbos eating everyone up.
Im just looking for other opinions, and if anyone has done either of my options, how much it ended up costing them? Thanks

From my experience, to do either one right, it will cost about the same. And I would estimate that at 2-3k.
I had a H22a accord, and now I have a F20B accord.
It really depends on what you want, as from what I've seen, a stock turboed f22 will make about the same horsepower as a stock h22. The turbo will make a bit more torque however.
Now on to reliability. I personally haven't had the best luck with H22s, and people I know haven't had good luck either. They tend to burn oil like a mother. I might even go out on a limb and say that a good condition f22 boosted to say 7psi is more reliable than a h22.
Then on to the modifying. To do more than bolt ons on a h22(cams, headers intake etc) it going to get very costly very quickly. So with just bolt on and cams i wouldn't expect to make more than 220whp. Granted 220whp is a lot, probably get you into the 13s in the 1/4 mile with the right suspension set up and driver.
A f22 can't really take more than 7-8psi reliably. and to make it handle more will once again cost a good bit of money to build the engine, but the h22 would probably cost m ore money to build than the f22 since it doesn't have iron sleeves stock.
So its really up to you, they are both about the same price, close in reliability, and about the same in power.
