First off, search did not work for me...

I'm new here and I'm thinking of buying an 03 or 04 v6 coupe auto-trans.

Are the new 5sp auto transbulletproof with only 10% hp gains? - I read the older 4sp versions died before 100k miles.

Are the new 5sp auto trans made by Honda or are they an aisin-warner unit or some other manufacturer?

Can I run 89 octane, 50/50 city/hwy and get 24mpg?

the MPG thing is a hard one to score since driving habits make all the difference.... is the car capable of those figures? yes, as long as it has been maintained properly the car can give you those numbers if you drive properly

The new trannies are supposed to be really good, the 98-2002 models (automatics) are not very good on average.... The 03 accord ex is the car I'm going to trade into down the road a few years so that would be my choice.

Your conclusion was questionable.
CReports has better info.
Accord V6autotrannys 99 and 00 were rated fair; one notch up from poor, CR's lowest rating.
Accord V6 auto trannys 01- 03 are rated good; middle of the pack.
New model 03 auto tranny back to fair.
Accord V6 auto tranny 04 very good and what I expect from Honda at minimum on a highly critical and potentially costly repair component.
Accord V6 autotranny 05 and 06 excellent.

My neighbor 99 Odyssey.
I read of an issue with these trannys a few years ago.
He services at Honda.
Asked them about the tranny issue.
New tranny installed.
Think Ford would do this?

My 05 Accord V6 tranny programming is uncanny.
Always where I think it should be without asking.
Better than what I would do on a manual.
