Brought my 03 accord 4 cycl. to honda to scan for the code, came up with 117-3. They indicated that Canister Vent Solenoid needs to be replace. I ask them If this can wait, they indicated it was okay to do it at a later time.

My question If anyone can help are:

1) Is there a way for me to find out the code myself? Do I need to buy any diagnostic tool?
2) How does a Canister Vent Solenoid get faulty?
3) There a list I can find what all the error codes mean?

You will need some type of scanner to extract codes yourself. A simple code scanner is inexpensive, <$50 but only gives you the code.

You will need to buy a Honda Accord Service manual for your vehicle to access the diagnostics to determine the precise fault causing the code to be set. check www.helminc.com for a manual. Sometimes ybay has used manuals on auction for slightly less.

I have heard that some solenoid vents are prone to corrode and become blocked preventing venting. You might check the solenoid and see if it can be freed w/ cleaning and some lubricant.

Is there a rush in getting this done? Can you give me a link to locate the solenoid?
And yes, Im planning to order Honda Accord Service manual...Im contemplating of getting the scanner since Ive owned a 00 crv before for 6 yrs I have never come up with an engine light code before... aswell as a 95 civic.
