04 Accord - Only Dealer Servicing Allowed?
Hi All
My sister in law got her new 08 Civic from the local Honda dealer and was told of the maintenance light and how she would be spending a fair bit of time getting service work done for her car there. I was wondering if my new 04 Accord EXL would also be flashing lights at me that required the hand of a dealer technician to reset these lights. My car has 140,000kms on it so I am not concerned about any warranties. Can I get my service work done wherever I want or am I destined to get to know all the techs at my local dealer service center too?
Thanks

I don't see why you could not get the service done wherever you want. I don't see why your sister in law has to take her car to the dealer either. Those lights can be reset easily. I'm not 100% sure of the procedure for your generation accord. If only the search function was working........
I know for my Accord, to reset the "Maintenance Required" light you simply hold down the odometer reset button with the key off, then turn the key on but do not crank, hold the button down till the light goes out, then crank the car. Your owner's manual (if you have it) covers this procedure for your car

You say km rather than miles, so I bet you're not in USA...
USA federal law prohibits carmakers from REQUIRING you to go to their own dealers for service. That mightnot betrue everywhere else...
2004 is probably the same as Jon's & the same as my 2003. You hold down the odometer reset button while turning the car on. Continue to hold it down for another 20 seconds...
2006 or 2007 they started with the oil life monitor where it displays your oil life in %. That's got a little different procedure but it's in the owner's manual.

Yes the main't required lights can be turned off;
However nobody has pointed out the fact that they are Main't REMINDERS.
Check the owners manual for the main't schedule.
Awell maintained car has a 20% longer life, and is less likely to leave you on the side of the road.
