I had an '01 Accord EX. The rear license plate was only held on using screws at the top. The bottom of the plate/holder vibrated against the paint and chipped it, which led to rust. My new '12 Accord EX has just the same two screws at the top. Any problem with using self-tapping screws to secure the bottom? Open to other ideas. Thanks.
I put pieces of felt (like what you put on the bottom of a household chair) on the bottom of the plate so if it did vibrate and contact the car it didnt scratch it. I also bent my plate so it would not vibrate up against the car. This wasnt for a accord but I cant imagine the problem being any different.
I would think self tapping screws would be far worse it would hold the plate but youd then have rust starting in the hole.

Did almost the same on my Pilot. I found a piece of cork (gasket material) and cut it, glued it to the back of the plate in the lower corners and then the center of the plate....been working great for me.
