Default 1977 civic: classic or junk?

So I was carousing craigslist for some older project cars when I came accross this old civic:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cto/824687225.html

The guy says he has the title and it's all clear.

I've been looking for an old car that I can just mess around with. I want to take out all the interior, remove any unnecessary weight, and basically build it to be a cheap little rally car. That little 1.2liter isn't going to move me too fast...but I'll think of something to do with it.

What you guys think? Treasure or garbage?

If you have the room for a project car, I'd say go see that it runs and can move first and if all looks good, offer him $50 for it.

it could be a fun project car, put a k series or something exotic like 2jz or rb26 in it.

Okay so I just got back from work, and I can't stop thinking about it. I just called the guy and he tells me a few things about it. It's got 150k miles on it, and it's been in the family since the early 80's. Seats are trashed, and the dash has a few cuts in it. Windows are all there, although I"m noht sure how many cracks.

So apparently it can turn over and drive, but it will cut out due to a fuel line problem....or so they suspect. He says the fuel tank is in the rear, and has a line going back from it. They installed some sort of pump on the tank, but it didn't solve the problem. They find bits of rust in the fuel filter, and they're just tired of dealing with the problem.

He says "I'll be god-damned if that thing makes it an hour to kent."

So I still really want this bad boy. This Friday I'm gonna take my buddy and a hydraulic lift and some tools and check it out.

Will post back later

When I started out I worked on those, didn't have a single grey hair then.

You can see what they did to me. LOL
