Check for voltage on that wire while trying to Start the car - key ot position III and clutch pedal pressed to the floor.

I didn't pick up on this earlier.

You're right my cruise isn't working. Wasn't sure why but was the least of my worries. Thought it was maybe a blown fuse. Thank you.

I don't see an upper switch though. I pulled the fuse for the starter signal and checked with a meter. I have 12v when trying to start, with and without pushing in the clutch.

Sorry for the constant questions and my ignorance. I know electronics but automotive electronics I'm weak on. Too many outside possibilities and I dont have a wiring diagram. Would you have one? Still no voltage on small wire when trying to start.

Ok update...I found the switch and rubber stopper is broken...I've been trying to get my hands in to replace it but can't seem to. What's the easiest way to do this?

I bypassed the clutch switch, now there's a hum under the hood.

Sounds like you got it

Sorry, I should have told you that upper switch is WAY up there and a PIA. The one time (so far on an 86 DX - have an 89 LXi 5speed still), I had the new button from the dealer (46505-SA5-000), with some time and I do have small hands I spent ~30 minutes getting it in there.

Just make sure to remind your son that the car will NOW START in gear.

BTW - get a plug from the dealer(same part number for both places on the clutch and the one one the brake pedal) - ~$2.20 and put it in the bottom of the pedal and see if the cruise works....a plus from all of this

Default Update

I bypassed the clutch switch. Now I have whine under the hood and lights go dim in the car when starting. I can't determine if it's the starter or solenoid it's coming from that area.

Sorry, I thought the "hum" under the hood was the engine running and everything was fine now...........

Put your hand on the starter when someone tries to start it. The bendix in the starter could have gone.....also be sure you are getting 12v to the small wire. If not, try running a piece of wire from the positive (+) battery post to the spade connector where the small wire connects.
