1990 Accord- Oil pressure ??
I ran over a rock in the middle of the road and smashed the oil pan and the pick up tube . Today I got these parts off of a car at a junk yard and put them on myself , and a brand new oil pan gasket . Now I am not getting any oil pressure. When I first put the oil pan on and put oil in, I over filled it a little . I drove about 4 miles then the oil pressure light came back on. Drove about 3 more miles home and drained about a quart of oil .. It JUST started to tick and the light is still on. Not driving this car , it still runs and starts but dont want to drive it with the tick. The Pick up tube gasket I got off the junk car and put on mine had a crack in it, could that be the cause for the lack of oil pressure ? Do I need to use a certain kind of seal ? Not sure what im doing wrong here. Any help is appreciated !!!
You should replace the pickup tube gasket. If it doesn't seal, then the oil pump could be sucking air through the crack in the bad gasket, rather than oil through the pickup tube. While you have the pan off, clean it really well and look for metal shavings. Some other things to check while you have the pan and pickup tube off:
1. Clean the pickup screen. It would have been best if you did this before you installed it the first time.
2. Clean out the rest of the pickup tube. Blast it out really well with carb cleaner.
3. Inspect the pickup tube itself for any cracks, especially at the flange.
Before you start it again after your repair and after filling it up with oil, remove the spark plugs, pull the fuel pump fuse and crank the engine over until the oil pressure light goes out. Don't crank excessively as the starter is not made for continuous duty.

Possibly still do it later, but after a few miles I'm focused on other things.
No action done on my part, no problem on the car's part.
Cracks in a gasket don't sound like a good idea.
