Default 1990 Honda accord: Idle issue

My girlfriend just got this Accord Dx automatic transmission. When it's a cold start it idles real high in a surging fashion. It's fine when the care is warmed up or in gear, but on cold startsin park the car idles high. Any ideas what is causing this?

I have a '97 Accord with the same problem. It's the Fast Idle Thermo Valve, located under the throttle body. You can try cleaning it and screwing it in as far as possible, but this didn't help mine at all. If you search these forums there are some articles on cleaning it. While driving the car...do you have any problems with the idle falling and surging when you release the gas pedal?

No, no odd idling after warm up. Sometimes the car has really bad pickup though. Not sure if this is related to the fast idle control or not. Sorry took so long to reply. been out of town for a bit. I'll try cleaning the fast idle later in the week to see what happens. Thanks!
