Exclamation 1991 accord help!!!! No start!!

Ok, well i have a 1991 accord that won't start. Electrical system seems to be fine, Was running perfectly about a week ago but Here are the symptoms:

Cranks at a consistent pace
After about 5 seconds cranking the engine, it smells a lot like gas
Will start after trying for like a half an hour AND IDLE PERFECTLY, but when i open the throttle over 2k RPM, it gives out a loud "POP" SOUND and shuts off, usually after this, it will not start back up again.

Possibilities: Im not sure if it could be the fuel pump, because it seems like its sending gas to the engine (smell) but im not getting any spark.
Im thinking it could be the fuel pump relay?

Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Verify spark with an inductive timing light (got one)? If you don't have one, then take any old spark plug, stick it into one of your plug wires, & lay it against a good engine ground. Try to start while someone watches for spark.

Don't do that by removing one of the plugs, because is sounds like you have plenty of fuel. Fuel spraying out the open sparkplug hole while the plug sits there sparking, might not be real good.

I'm guessing rich fuel mixture, because normally when it doesn't start, you don't smell fuel so quickly & easily.

Pull the vacuum hose off the FPR after cranking. There should NOT be any fuel in that hose. If there is, you got a bad FPR.

No i dont have a timing light. But i will try the method listed above. Im thinking of what the possibilities may be and most people would say its my fuel pump only because it sounds like the gas is not getting to the engine, tricky part is when it DOES start, it will idle fine. Thanks for your input and i will keep you guys posted.

If its possible, can anyone give me the location of my FPR? Is it behing my intake manifold?

The fuel pressure regulator is attached to the fuel rail, controlling backpressure of the fuel. It's #8 in this picture.

The big hose at the bottom is the fuel returning to the tank. The little vacuum hose (see the little hose barb on top pointing up) is not supposed to have fuel inside.

Well, I checked the FPR, turns out there was no gas in the top hose, is there anything else i can check?

Low fuel pressure might cause your symptoms. Low pressure might allow fuel to dribble into intake manifold as liquid preventing starting. Suggest having fuel pressure measured to check.

You can crudely check fuel pressure by cracking the banjo bolt on the fuel injector rail. You should get a very energetic spray of fuel if pressure is good (40-45 psi). If fuel simply flows out slowly, then fuel pressure is a problem.

If checking the pressure is not possible, replacing the fuel filter is not too difficult on this model (if similar to the 90 Accord I had), and filter relatively inexpensive.

good luck

the popping means that the firing order maybe wrong. check your firing order i had the same problem on my 93 civic and that was my source

How would you check the firing order? I checked and ran tests for the fuel system and that seems to be perfectly fine (FPR, fuel relay, Fuel pump, filter) Besides I dont think that might be a possibility only reason being is because when it did start, it idled perfectly. No shuddering, no sputtering, etc. I disconnected the ECU relay to de-flud my engine and now it wont crank period!!! Doesnt even turn over. Think the starter went out now because of so many times cranking it. What do you guys think? HELP!!!
