Default 1991 accord horse power increase

I have a 1991 accord lx automatic with the sohc non vetc motor in it.
everything is original in it, it has 160k miles on both trans and motor.
the car was driving great until it got overheated on the way home, the overheating burned and blew the head gaskets.
so I already got the head off and I already took the cams off the head. Im getting the head resurfaced and pressure checked at the machine shop.

BUT I GOT A QUESTION?
since I already got the whole head apart, can I just purchase an aftermarket brand new cam shaft and take the head to get it resurfaced at the machine shop to fit the new aftermarket cam shaft?
the reason for this is because i just want to give the motor just a little more horse power.

thank you for your time!

You should be able to do that. I'll say that I always try to stick with OEM parts, because it is less headache. Do your homework on the aftermarket camshaft you purchase, and make sure you know what else may be required to get the car to run properly.
