Default 1992 Accord, idles slow, leads to stalling

My car has idled rather slowly as of late when sitting at a light, stop sign, etc. Sometimes it idles slow so the oil pressure light flickers, not that thats the actual problem, but as if the car is about to stall out. If I add back in a few hundred RPMs of throttle, it stops the flickering. Today when I put the car in neutral, it idled slow enough to stall two separate times. It starts right back up but clearly this is a nuisance. Any thoughts?

Is the check engine light on? If yes, then get the codes using DIY forum guidance and report these.

If no codes, the problem is likely a clogged idle air control valve and dirty throttle plate/body. See DIY forum for guidance on removing/cleaning the IACV. Different year, but procedure is same.

Clean throttle plate, both sides, and bore around throttle plate w/ throttle body cleaner and old toothbrush.

There is a download 91 Accord manual in Online Manuals post of DiY forum that should be helpful.

good luck

The check engine light is NOT on. Ill try the IACV thing that you suggested. Im gonna inspect the throttle on monday. I was going to attempt to tighten the throttle cable so it revs a little bit faster, I know thats not hard, but is that foolish?

For the idle control to work properly, the throttle has to close completely. So you want the cable to go slack just a bit. You can remove excess slack, but don't attempt to increase the idle by tightening the cable.

Look in the DIY section for a post by me about setting the BASE idle.

If you clean the IACV, you might as well also clean the FITV.
