1992 Honda Accord LX ECU/M: How do I Fix?
I have a 1992 Honda Accord LX 5sp that has suffered form some flood damage. The motor is good. There was no water in the oil. I checked everything, cleaned spark plugs, but I'm still not getting spark. All wires are still connected properly. The distributor was just replaced and the car was only under up to the bottom door seal. So only the interior got wet and the upper motor/under the hood was dry. The starter is still good. So I did some researching and came to the conclusion that my Engine Control Module has suffered from water damage. The car had standing water on the inside of the car up to where the ECM was located. I found that a whole new ECM was very expensive. Is there any way that I am able to fix what's burnt or fried? Is that even the problem?
If any of the wiring harnesses get water in them, it takes forever to dry out. So it might be wise to unplug the harnesses at the ECM and try drying them out. Same for harnesses in the engine compartment.
Seems like a junkyard ECM might be easy to find?
Another thing I saw once on my car was sparkplugs continue to short (and not fire) even tho they look clean. Probably worth the cost of a new set of plugs instead of cleaning them.
