Ok I was just able to get the code.... I think. When I shorted the clip and turned the key to the II position this is what happened: at first the CEL didn't come on, the it did a long flash followed by two short flashes, and then the CEL went off for a short period if time then it did a long flash followed by two short flashes. Does this mean that the code was 12, 22, or both? Please help!

From your description, you have a code 12. That is for the EGR valve lift sensor. It could be the EGR valve or something with the vacuum system.

I would download a 94 shop manual from the online manuals thread in the DIY section. Make sure you set the display option at the bottom of the list of threads to show all threads. Page 11-115 shows the diagnostics.

Hondadude - The shop manual states that vtec can turn on between 2,300 and 3,200 rpm depending on the sensor input.

First things first. ADD you car info to your signature line....I have short term memory issues and having to go back to the first page to see what car we are dealing with is a pain.

One long and two short, followed by a pause, then repeating = Code 12. EGR lift. So now you get to figure out why? Check the manual for testing procedures.....Have you ever cleaned the egr ports-see the DIY section, Hondadude has a write up in there. While doing that you might as well remove the vavle and clean it as well.

Firat off, can you tell me how to add a signiture. I can't figure out how to do that or I would have already. Sorry about that.

Secondly, are you (poorman212) saying to go ahead and clean the egr ports and valve? I have never cleaned them, and I have only had the car for about 8 months, and I HIGHLY doubt the previous owener would have cleaned the EGR ports and valve.

Correction:
The second time the CEL started flashing there were TWO long flashes followed by two short flashes. Does this mean that there were actually 2 codes instead of just 1?

You can enter your signature in the User CP section up top.

Its sounds like a code 12 and a code 22.

You should clean the EGR ports. There are a few posts by me listing a dhost site, a pdf, and a thread in the main DIY forum.

Code 22 is for the vtec. Check the oil level in the car.

I checked out the post on how to clean the EGR ports with the pictures. I don't know exactly what you are talking about with some of terms, and the pictures aren't really helping me. I would tackle the task myslef, but the last thing that I want to do is mess something up on my car. I guess I will be taking my car to the mechanic on Monday to get a quote for cleaning the EGR ports.

poorman212: I didn't take your comment the wrong way. I had no clue on how to put a signature, and I followed your instructions and was able to add a signature (I think). If you don't mind, check out my signature, and let me know if there is anything that I should add or remove.

Thanks

Google d8N-SE047VY

This is a video on how to do this. It is pretty simple.

Like in the video, the light will not come on for clogged port on your car. That is why I put the suggestion to check vacuum routing. Do you have the manual that I suggested you download?

The one thing I would do is reset the ECU by pulling the 7.5 amp backup/radio fuse in the engine bay fuse box for a minute. Drive around until the check engine light reappears. Recheck codes. The codes should repeat, so double check the codes.

We're good, I didn't want/mean to sound like an a**.

The EGR stuff isn't that bad of a job. After looking at the write up, you might look at your car and locate the items talked about in there. Then you'll have to decide....about the only thing I'd add is that a new set of injector o-rings would be a good investment, I don't like reusing the old ones.

And as PA said, reset the ECU.
