Default 1994 Honda Accord LX Ignition

Hi does anyone know how to take out the ignitioncylinder lock? I have a 94 accord lx 5 speed.I don't want to mess with it if there is a chance of deploying the air bag. It'd be greatly appreciated.

Default RE: 1994 Honda Accord LX Ignition

remove the shrouds from the steering column; unhook the battery after you know the radio code if so equipped.
The ignition switch bracket has 'breakaway' bolts. Meaning the heads are broken off at the factory, all you get to see is the rounded off "nubs".
I use a small chisel on the sides of them to get them started backing out.
Your local dealer should have replacement bolts, so you can get to snap the heads off yourself Or if you want to do it the 'cheap charlie' way cut a slot in the rounded head and use a screw driver to put them back in.
Before you reinstall the new lock cylinder take it, and your door key to a locksmith, and have the tumblers set the same so you don't need 2 different keys.
A SERIOUS word of CAUTION; The SRS system uses a flat ribbion cable inside the steering column shrouds, avoid bumping it, touching it, or even breathing around it. The connection of the cable to the connectors is very weak, and easy to damage.
Been there and bought one for a customer.
