Default 1994 LX Magic Temperature Gauge

My 1994 accord lx seems to be having a problem with the temperature gauge.

It will warm up to only about 1/2 of the way to the 1/2 point, not right below the half point like most cars. I just recently had the upper coolant hose replaced and the coolant lost was replaced with fresh, that's why I didn't think too much until tonight.

I thought it was taking a really long time to warm up the other day, and I thought it was rather strange. I was thinking thermostat but Ive never had this problem with a car before.

I drove it 60 miles tonight, it was up at that halfway point and then it dropped back down. Any suggestions?

The normal operating temperature of the car is about a quarter to a third of the way up the scale. It sounds like the temperature is normal.

Changes after fully warm could indicate sticking thermostat. When cooling fans come on, thermostat should compensate by slightly closing to hold temperature. If temp drops quickly, thermostat is suspect.

You might watch closely for a bit, and also check that no air is trapped in cooling system. This can also cause abrupt changes in coolant temp.

If you decide to replace thermostat, an OEM Honda thermostat is best. They perform better than aftermarket.

good luck
