Question 1996 engine noise when driving

my 96 lx sedan has a spot when u push on the pedal where it sounds like its grinding or something. its like a rumble, and when it happens i can feel my car lose power and when i move my foot on the pedal either way just a little bit it stops..... see the only thing i have wrong with my car now is this. and well my trans shifts kinda hard but thats another topic. but i have no idea why its making this noise and its done it ever since i got the car almost two years ago. it has had its moments where it doesnt happen but recently its gotten worse. its easing up now but i think its just because of how im driving. iv noticed that if i drive constantly varying the gas it doesnt do it as much. (like give gas and then let of constantly) and iv got it down to were i KNOW for a fact it only does it UNDER 2,500rpm. so what is it? is it my timing belt??

Is the check engine light turning on when you are driving? Also does the D4 light flash when driving?

I would clean the EGR ports on your car. Google T2T013.pdf. The last two pages show how to clean the EGR ports on the 94-97 accords.

As for the transmission, have you changed the fluid using honda ATF? Any metal shavings in it? You can clean the shift and lockup solenoids along with the screens, because they can get clogged up over time.

They are bolted on the transmission. Go to the main DIY section, and open the Online Manuals thread. The spooner link has a 94 CD7/CD5 shop manual that is almost identical to for the 96 accord.
