Hello All,

Thanks for allowing me to join the site! I was looking for a replacement part for my car. I have to replace the ECU. The part number is ECU 37820-P0B-A70 881-220213. I saw a lot of them online but i am not sure the importance of the second set of numbers (881-220213). Do I have to match up 37820-P0B-A70 or both 37820-P0B-A70 and 881-220213?? just wondering because I dont want to have to buy multiple versions of this item just to get the car to work. I want to know if it will work in my 96 honda accord. It currently has ECU 37820-P0B-A70 881-220213 in it. If it needs reprogramming, is that expensive? Only done at dealer?

Why do you need to replace the ECU? Has all of your testing confirmed that the ECU has failed?
That said, ideally you want to match all of the numbers on your existing one. You can ask the seller if the 1 they're selling matches your existing engine, trans combo, as the ECU also contains the transmission control unit, hence why it's actually called a PCM (Power Control Modual). I went on car-part.com when I went looking for 1 for my 97. I had found several, until talking with the seller, then I found that it didn't match my own car (either wasn't a non-VTEC, or it was for an AT where I have a 5 speed MT, non VTEC car), or it was for a wagon versus a sedan. Little things like that. Those number groups mean different things (don't know what). I thought I'd point that out. As it turned out, in my case, my own ECU was fine, but I had a wiring issue in the car itself (no power to the injector resistor pack).

 

I am not sure. I was just told by the mechanic that the ECU was bad. I was having a problem it the car starting up in the cold weather, then not at all. I replaced several things. The distributor, the ignition coil, the whole ignition (where you put the key) and now they are saying this is broken. This is my second mechanic that has been working on the car. When I called the dealer for the ECU, he just wanted the 37820-P0B-A70. He didnt ask for the rest. But I want to make sure it matches. I saw some on ebay but those last numbers (881-220213) dont match. I dont know if it matters.

 

The last numbers are the serial number, so they won't match. Just use 37820-P0B-A70.
