Default 1996 Honda Accord Wagon Idle surging

Hi Guys!

I am having an idle surging/fluctuating problem..

I have done a few tests to see if I can fix this, but still no fix. The idle goes up and down when in park/nuteral. It ranges from 1000 to 2000 rpm and only does it when it is warmed up. I have cleaned the IACV, checked and tightened the fast idle valve, cleaned the throttle body and butterfly's, general check for vacum hose leaks or damage . I also sprayed intake cleaner, there was no change.

I cleaned the ICV three times already and did wait for it to dry before installing.. does not appear to be any visual damage to it. I also tapped on the ICV while running to see if any changes in surging idle... none.

I have not unplugged the IACV electrical connection to check if the erratic idle went away yet.

I cant afford the $200.00 for a ICV

Can I leave the IVC unplugged and just drive like that?

Any thoughts, suggestions for a fix would be greatly appericiated!! I am loosing hair by the minute.. not much left LoL.. been working on this work three days.

Make sure radiator is full. Low coolant level has been associated w/ unstable idle in past.

Check PCV system. A stuck open PCV or leaking PCV hose can cause unstable idle.

No harm in disconnecting IACV to see if idle stabilizes. It should run about 550 +/- 50 rpm. If this stablizes idle, then IACV must be the problem. Suggest purchasing a used unit. Check car-part.com and ebay.

good luck

Even if the radiator looks full, use the bleed screw (at thermostat housing) to remove air pockets from the cooling system.

Look in the DIY section for my post about setting the BASE idle.

Will do. Thanks for the info guys.. I did remove the ICV elec plug and altough it stabilized.. the idle became quite 'rough', so I plug it back in to prevent any kind of damage.

I will check the PCV and coolant levels this afternoon and let you know what I find!

Thanks again guys!
