Unhappy 1997 Accord LX coupe 5spd just dies on me!

Hey can anyone tell me why my 1997 accord coupe just dies on me? I can be driving or at and a stand still. It'll do it atleast once every hour. some times the car will still be on but if i step on the gas nothing happens then a few seconds later it dies. I have to turn it over like 3 to 4 times to get the car started again. It's a manual transmission w/ no mods just a standard lx.

If all the dash panel lights (alt, Check Engine, etc) are off when keyswitch is ON, then intermittent keyswitch fault is likely. Check DIY section for keyswitch assy replacement guidance. See "A Lot of Good Informations"

If the dash panel lights come on when engine dies, then keyswitch is not the problem. Listen carefully when you turn keyswitch from OFF to On. You should hear some clicks from under the dash and fuel pump buzz (very soft) from trunk area for 2 secs. If you don't hear those sounds, then Main Fuel Relay fault is likely. Again check DIY section for MFR repair guidance. Same source as above.

It is possible but less likely you have an intermittent igntion problem, coil or ignitor issue. Check the first two possibilties before exploring ignition problems.

good luck

If you can make it happen by wiggling the key, that't pretty good proof of a flaky ignition switch.
