1997 Honda Accord SE Decreased AC Performance After Installing New TXV
Hello. I couldn't find the answer to this problem anywhere else so I thought I should ask it myself. Hopefully I'm in the right place. I'm new here. Like the title says, I installed a new expansion valve on my 1997 Honda Accord Special Edition. The reason I installed a new one was because the original got stuck closed and provided very poor cooling performance if any. Before the old one malfunctioned, the AC was working fine and blowing cold. Anyway, I bought a new Denso 475-7504 expansion valve from Amazon (link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HCSNUK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_2qd4Db1C606WR) which is supposed to be the OEM recommended replacement part and had my local shop install it, pull a vacuum on the AC system, and charge it with the proper amount of R134a, and they found no leaks. So after all that, the AC function has been somewhat restored but it takes much longer than it used to for cold air to register from the vents and cool the interior to a comfortable level. The evaporator never gets cold enough for the compressor to cycle off via the temperature switch when it used to regularly. There also used to be a noticeable sound of the refrigerant entering the evaporator when I would first turn the AC on but now that sound is very faint. So my conclusion is that the new TXV is behaving differently than the old one when it worked and maybe not opening as much as it should? I didn't witness the installation of the TXV so I can't say with certainty that it was installed properly with regard to sensing bulb location and stuff like that but I'm pretty sure it was because it is a reputable shop that does AC work and a variety of stuff regularly with very positive feedback. So after all that rambling, my question is is this normal behavior for a new expansion valve or will it correct itself over time (I have noticed a slight but noticeable improvement in performance after 3 weeks)? I don't know if it's a thing where the new TXV has to be "broken in" but my guess is that it needs lubrication for the moving parts in it to work properly and maybe it sticks a bit when it is new before the refrigerant oil has circulated through the system for a while? Anyways, any help or knowledge on this subject would be greatly appreciated so I can know whether I have a defective/improperly installed TXV or not, or a completely different issue. Thanks!
