Hello all

I have a 1998 Acoord Coupe V-6 Automatic
Currently it will not start everytime.

First the car lost the dash lights then we had to have the key replaced then after several months the car started to not start once in awhile.

Well i have a used ignition switch slaved in with the current key so it will read the keys code the car started one time now it will sometimes let me take it out of park, It will always turn over but only starts once in 50 trys

Any help will be greatly appreciated

trying to get the car ready for a new driver

Key or keys...to on/position II, what does the green key light and cel do?

 

Green light goes out

 

Any stored codes in the computer?

Key to on, does the cel come on and go off? Have you tried to spray carb cleaner into the TB (open butterfly)?

Is there 12v at the blk/yel at the dist? Are you getting spark at the plugs?

 

Not trying to sound crazy but what is the cel

Cel Light goes out instantly
Car started the first 6 or 7 times today then would not start again i will check to see if i am getting and spark tomorrow
it has a mind of its own, the last itme if i shook the steering colum it would start now ???

 

When it won't start...is the starter turning over? What is the CEL doing? A shake of the column "kind of" leads to a bad key switch (elec part)...if it is bad, there WILL NOT be 12v on the BLK/YEL wire at the dist when the no start is present..EDIT...when the key is in the on position, hence why I asked about tetsing this?

 

The times that i will not start it turns over great cel is out and alot of the time it will not come out of park
i have changed the electrical part of the key switch 3 times
i will check for power as soon as it warms up i bit
