1998 Accord P1165 code keeps coming back after repair. HELP!!!
I have a 1998 Honda Accord EX with the 2.3L U.L.E.V. California Emissions engine. The car popped the service engine soon light so i scanned it with my Mac Tools Scanner and P1165 showed, which is the primary O2 sensor. I replaced the O2 sensor with a Bosch unit, and the light came back on after the repair, after about35 miles of driving, and yes I cleared the code first. So, in case the new O2 sensor was no good, I exchanged it for a new one but with the same results. I am positive the O2 sensor is the correct part number so i know that isnt the issue and i also watched the data stream with my scanner and the scanner shows the sensor is working fine. I need to get the car inspected so i can drive it so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you bring the sensor back and get a Denso one? I've heard the Bosch sensors and the F23 don't mix very well. Also, the sensor between the F23A1 (49 states emissions) and the F23A4 (ULEV) are different.

RE: 1998 Accord P1165 code keeps coming back after repair. HELP!!!
I will try anything at this point. The parts store tried to give me the sensor for the F23A1 engine when I first went there and I was able to have them order the sesnor for my F23A4, so I know that I have the correct sensor, just as you say hopefully it is because the engine does not like the bosch. I hope this solves it. I will let you know. Thanks.

Yeah the A1 uses a narrow-band O2 sensor (like most other cars) and the ULEV A4 uses a wide-band sensor couples with a 32-bit engine computer to keep emissions to a minimum.
If worse comes to worse, just buy the sensor from Honda.

RE: 1998 Accord P1165 code keeps coming back after repair. HELP!!!
I got a sensor from Honda, installed it and cleared the codeand guess what, it threw the P1165 code again after driving about 30 miles. Now I am convinced after 3 different brand A/F O2 sensors that the sensor is not the problem. There has to be something I am missing. I have also installed a new cap, rotor and plugs as well as cleaning the throttle body. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Happy Holidays all.
