Hello accord-enjoyers!

I've had my 98 for about 5 years now, bought it from the first owner who maintained it great, garage-stored, kept records, etc. Bought it at 125,000 miles, I've only put another 10k on in 5 years.

It has a mysterious stalling issue that I can't seem (and mechanics as well) figure out. Once the engine is warm, there are zero issues. But while the engine is cold/warming up, at very low speeds (such as turning into a parking lot or slight-on-and-off gas at the drive thru) it will want to stall, and if I don't give it gas at that moment, it will indeed stall. Every time I just pop it into neutral, restart the engine, and it's fine. This happens maybe once a month, probably slightly less now since I've gotten used to adapting to it than earlier years.

I took it to a mechanic a couple years ago who recommended a new IACV, which I had put in. It felt slightly different in idle, but it still didn't solve the issue. I've had no codes last oil change, so whatever the issue is, the computer isn't sensing it. If anyone has any ideas or has experienced similar, please let me know!

Ideas I have had if these seem plausible:
-Clogged EGR / intake manifold ports (despite no code maybe, could be mild?)
-Bad distributor?
-Bad fuses somewhere?

Accords of that era have a 2.3L I4 engine or a 3.0L V6. Which one do you have? It makes a difference in locating wire grounds and the EGR ports are completely different.

Was any work done on the car right before you had this issue? Any other issues or repairs done on the car since this started?

Diagnosis will be challenging, because it doesn't happen often. Numerous problems could cause the car to stall out, so I highly recommend not throwing parts at potential fixes. Too often a new aftermarket part is bad out of the box and causes two problems that complicate diagnosing. Plus the money spent replacing a good working part.

Does the car only stall when warming up after sitting all night, or can it stall after being off for 30-60 minutes if you were at a store?

 

It's the 4-cylinder, no work done that caused it, it was either always there or came on slowly over some time (not sure which). It seems more likely to stall when warming up after sitting all night, versus off for 30-60 min while shopping or something. And again, only ever happens when there's very little to no throttle. It's not the worst thing in the world, but every now and then it can happen when pulling into a street or something that can be inconvenient and cause minor panic for a moment.
