I am getting ready for my 93k mileage 99 vtec EX accord's 90k mile service and need a list of what needs done, and appropriate cost. I had a regular 75k service at 77k with no hiccups.
The 60k was done at 69k and included new front brakes, spark plugs distributor cap n rotor; all belts hoses were ok

What quote should I expect from a Honda dealer (S Minnesota)

Of course timing belt stuff is separate, and that quote is $581. Definitely not worth it, as it does not have water pump, tensioner, etc. that I understand better be replaced along with timing belt at 90k.

Here is what I got from NAPA auto care for 589 (50% labor, rest parts). I would confirm if original Honda parts are used. Is there stuff missing in the list below, I know replace coolant n brake fluid should also be there, but open to comments. Thanks!

You say timing belt it not worth it? I'd say YES it's worth it. Don't skip the timing belt replacement.

A lot of the stuff you list here is pretty easy for you to do yourself with some instructions from us. Wanna do it that way?

Your auto tranny fluid would be better to use Honda ATF for about the same price. Drain & fill, don't "power-flush". If it drains out pretty clean, you may only have to do that once, for 3 quarts.

Honda factory sparkplug wires seem to last forever. Are they really needed?

 

$ 589 ??? way too much money..and they did not even adjust the valves ........ngk plugs 2262 ,ZFR5F-11 cost around $ 3-3.50 each at Honda dealer........why waste 84 dollars on synthetic tranny fluid??? Honda ATF Z1 is great for this tranny at about $ 6.50 per qt ,why do a flush ??, nothing better than Honda factory plug wires ..
About the timing belt ,, do it ASAP ,,and replace the water pump and all the seals,, cam, crank, balancer shaft and make sure to install a retainer on the balancer shaft seal.also alt and p/s belts

and last,, under the replace items ,, why do you post auto and manual tranny fluid ??

I have not opened the car hood more than twice, is that inexperience enough to not DIY?

Definitely, I wish to replace timing belt, water pump, what all is suggested to be done, once this is being taken care of, and what kind of cost to expect?
(One quote was of 5 hours labor for timing n water pump)

Replacing air filters & spark plugs is real easy. Changing oil (engine and transmission) is maybe the next easier thing. That needs some pans to drain the old oil, & it's kinda messy, but still pretty easy.

I guess it depends on whether you WANT to begin learning how to do more & more stuff for yourself. You can buy some tools for the cost of shop labor.

With no experience I wouldn't suggest you change your own timing belt.

 

i thought the timing belt should be replaced every 60k, air filter @ 12k, oil (depends), tranny fluid...(?)...
As for doing the stuff yourself, you should be able to do everything jim said. remember that hondas don't like bosch spark plugs not any other brand of tranny fluid that is not honda's... is you car working well overall?

 

Timing belt is 100k (maybe 105k) miles, since about 1995 or so.
