Default 1999 Honda Accord Fuel Gauge System

Fuel gauge reads full when tank is full but immediately reads about 1/2 only after about 50 miles of driving. I believe either the tank float or sending unit is defective. How does one access the float/sensor? I have heard that it accessible/replaceable via removing rear seat w/o removing the gas tank.

i am not certain on that particular application, but the seat should remove pretty easily, and you will be able to see whether or not you can access the top of the tank through that opening.

Hi Rogersah..

You can access the fuel sending unit in the fuel tank through an access hole under the
rear seat with the fuel tank still in the vehicle.

1St make sure that you detach the battery cable from the negative battery terminal, and then loosen the gas cap to relieve the pressure that builds up in the gas tank and here is two cautions.... 1. Dont smoke and 2. if your stereo is equipped with an anti theft system, make sure that you have the correct activation code before disconnecting that battery....
