1999 Honda Accord V6...Evap question...Switch Question
I have a 1999 Honda Accord and when I am driving it; it shuts off. Then I have to wait awhile before it starts back up.
I have the error code for the EVAP Canister and the EGR valve. Could that be the problem or could it be the switch?
Thanks for any help.
This is what read out at Autozone.
Mission contol system leak detected ( Control Canister System)
Probable cause:
001 Loose fuel cap
002 Vapor canister saturated
003 Failed vent solenoid
004 Fail purge solenoid

EGR might cause a stall, or at least stumbling & sputtering.
EVAP leak will not cause any difficulty in running at all.
Check out P1457 in the "DIY Answers" section. On an Accord, there's more possibilities than you listed. But a loose gas cap would cause P1456 instead.
In the future, it's more helpful if you get the actual error code numbers P1457 or P????.

Check to see if it makes any difference to hold the key a bit into the starting position. Don't quite let it go, but just enough so the starter motor quits.
If that helps, then it sounds like a flaky ignition switch.

i agree with Jim,,,,,,,,,,, there was a recall of the ignition switch did you have it done ??
call the dealer give them the VIN # and they will let you know if it has been done ..

It could be the main fuel relay that supplies power to the fuel pump, the pump itself, or possibly the ignition switch.
Check for power and ground at the fuel pump electrical connector. The main fuel relay supplies power for about ~2 seconds while the MFR when you initially turn the key to the II position, so you may need an assistant.
As for wire colors, electrical connection, get a 98-02 shop manual from the online manuals link in the DIY section. Its an iso file, so you will have to burn it to a CD for it to work.

If you hear the main relay click, but the pump doesn't run, then I'd suspect a bad relay or wiring back to the pump.
If the main relay doesn't click, then I'd suspect the ignition switch. Or the wiring from the switch to the main relay.
