Hi. I have an issue where the engine oil pan is full of metal shavings during oil changes. Only in winter. Had the oil analyzed, was good, except just a little high in chromium. Was running 5w30.Mobil 1.
Also only in winter, engine makes a binding sound when starting, about 1-2 seconds, then stops making the noise suddenly. I think this noise represents wear. Been doing this last 2 years. It's on it's original timing belt, though has leas than 100k on it. I'd like to change the belt, but don't want to drop $1500 if it will need a Metal in oil
new engine soon anyway. Runs and sounds great. Enough metal has exited thus metal in the last 2 years to make a whole ring. Any ideas? It's a daily driver, so tough to tear down just to poke around. Thanks.
I have each cylinder scoped to see if there is any damage. I'd probably pull the valve covers to see if the cam lobes or valves have severe wear. Fairly non-invasive and can give you an idea of what repairs/replacements are necessary.
