Default 2000 3.0L alarm or immobilizer? (remote start insall question)

Looking to possibly get a remote start for a 2000 accord 2dr 3.0L (LX i think)

Does this car have any kind of factory alarm or immobilzer that would interfere with a remote start installation? The car doesn't currently have keyless entry

On mine, there was a part that had to be bought from Honda .... supposedly. I wouldn't be surprised if that was just the shops excuse for not finishing the job ...... I think the -special part- was a relay.

Anyway, the part needed was to bypass the immobilizer for the auto-start function. Prior to the fix, the auto-start would work only with the key in and on.

Yes, there is an immobilizer in the key cylinder and a chip in the key itself.

So it needs one of those things where they put a spare key into a box under tha dash with a coil of wire wrapped around it? or does it bypass the immobilizer entierly? does that make the immobilizer totaly non-functional anymore?

Are you doing this yourself or having a shop do it?

haven't decided yet, but i'm not going to do it if it's one of those jerry-rigged kind of things.

It shouldn't be, it's most likely a box you can place in between the ignition wires beneath the dash. I installed my alarm and it wasn't so bad. What brand and model are you looking at?

Haven't decided on brand/model yet. just investigating the feasability.

I knowsomebody whohad problems with integration with afactory alarm ina car.

is the bypass module a Honda part, or made byremote start manufacturers?

It's not Honda I know that... I'm just trying to think... because I didn't have to bypass my immobilizer to install my alarm, but obviously I never use the car without the key.

Looks like i answered my own question. Bulldog says this car needs the "791 Universal Bypass Module" http://www.bulldogsecurity.com/MTweb...ts.asp?id=1007

Please Note: If your vehicle has a Transponder anti-theft system, you will also need an additional key to put inside the 791 bypass

a spare key put inside a box under the dash definitely fits my idea of jerry-rigged. I think i'll pass on the remote start.
