2000 Accord A/C not working

I have 6 yr old Honda accord in mint condition and recently I noticed that A/C was not getting cold enough. Suspecting leak, I put freeon in the morning and by the evening A/C will blow warm air. I did that using a/c recharge kit from wal-mart.
Today, I took my car to a mechanic. He ran his system to evacuate completely and put new freeon. After this was done, now my a/c constantly blows warm air and the hi pressure side is cold while cold pressure hoses are warm. The mechanic tells me that expansion valve is clogged, so i need to replace that and receiver drier too, take compressor out, flush the whole system and add new free on, all for $500 or so.
Is this the correct diagnosis? Should I take second opinion?
TIA,
-Perry
