Went for an oil change was told, the oil pan has stripped threads, and only way to fix it is to replace the entire pan for around $400. Can't it be re threaded? Also does anyone know it the 2000 accords 4 cylinder had steel or aluminum oil pans?

 

It is an aluminum oil pan. A TIME-SERT can be used to repair it.

 

And once you install the insert, install a FUMOTO valve. Never have to remove a drain plug again.

 

I actually just used a Fumoto valve with blue Loctite on it to fix my 93 when the local jiffy lube stripped it out.

The threads weren't completely gone on mine. It leaked so I knew they'd stripped it.


I let ALL of the oil drain out. Left it open overnight so every drop would be gone.

I hand threaded the Fumoto into the pan so as to not overtighten and completely strip out the threads. Had blue Loctite on the threads. Left to cure for 24 hours.

Then filled the next morning. The blue Loctite both holds the valve tight and sealed the threads, and I drove that car another 100K miles before selling it. Never leaked a drop of oil, and the Fumoto valve made oil changes so easy that I now run them on all my vehicles.
