Default 2000 EXL 4CYL Guage Cluster randomly flickers and stops working

2000 Accord EX-L 4CYL

Occasionally, my instrument panel will quit working and start flickering. Sometimes it will just stop working altogether - no speedometer, fuel guage, you name it.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before? I cannot make this happen - it is random, and I've had the dealer troubleshoot it to no end.

I've seen a few posts on here, but nothing describes my issue close enough, so that is why I'm posting a new thread.

Thanks for any assistance!

I would suspect the dimmer control. This controls the panel lights and have a rep for failing. You might try readjusting the dimmer to a different position or thumping to see if you can stimulate the problem. If yes, then you have the culprit.

good luck

Thanks...I'll give it a shot - but honestly you think the dimmer would make the entire guage cluster stop functioning? The OD, fuel guage, etc.? Lights dont actually go out - the entire cluster stops functioning. It typically happens when it is damp outside (not always but it seems the majority of the time that is when it fails). Again - with that said, do you still suspect the dimmer?

I misinterpreted your post and thought only lights were going off.

No, if gauges are going off, then dimmer is not likely.

It could be a faulty ignition switch, but engine should go off also and you didn't mention this.

It has appearance of faulty gauge panel circuit board. Damage to power distribution circuit.

good luck
