Default 2000 Honda Accord - 3.0 V6-shifter bezel

Does anybody know what the little hole(opening) to the left of the "P" - park- in the shifter bezel of a 2000 Honda Accord with automatic transmission is for? I'm not sure if this opening is supposed to have a little plastic plug in this hole or not or if it's used as a port to plug in some kind of tool for diagnostics?

It is used by the factory to put the car in neutral. You stick the key in the hole and push down, then you can move the shifter out of park.

And use that in case your brake/shift interlock system fails. If it won't let you shift out of PARK, that's the emergency release.
