Default 2001 Accord Heated Mirrors

What is it with (mostly Asian) manufacturers arbitrarily deciding that most of us living south of the 49th parallel have no need for heated exterior mirrors on our cars?

Our 2001 Accord gets parked outside, and this morning it had a thick layer of frost all over it; heated mirrors would have been really nice. Our Mazda3 was like this when we bought it; fortunately the simple purchase of Canadian wiring harnesses and mirrors connects the heat elements to the rear-window defogger circuit. Is it just as easy to retrofit heated mirrors to a 2001 Accord Sedan?

It looks almost the same as the description of the Mazda, except there is a mirror switch on the door controls.....of course it is just a power source so that could come from any source.....

Might have heated mirrors in an Accord EX but not the LX?? If that's it, you might get caught up in the situation where the EX has multiplexers & LX uses more conventional wiring??

I have an EX-L and it definitely doesn't have heated mirrors.

Aw, man. Now I'm dissapointed with Honda for not having heated mirrors...
(I can't remember all the equipment in all the different versions.)

It isn't just Honda; last fall when we were shopping for a new car; pretty much every Japanese and Korean car we looked at had unheated mirrors. The GTI, which we bought, was pretty much loaded.

My wife got a 2009 Saab & they had taken away all kinds of features for the base model, to get the selling price down. She didn't want a sunroof, but they also got rid of the headlamp washers, heated seats, heated mirrors, etc.

So I was surprised that an EX-L doesn't have that stuff.

What I saw in the wire diagrams points me to the idea the multiplex is NOT part of the picture.

Canada models have the option, so I was comparing the diagrams of the two to come to my conclusion....yes, sad I bought a shop manual for a car I have never owned but it helps when it comes to this kind of question

The Pilot has all kinds of heated things....seats, side glass, mirrors
