Default 2001 Accord ULEV EX 4 door (Code p1164)

Hello Im new at this dont want to spent alot of money trying to guess what is the cause of the problem any help is greatly apprciate it.
Bought the car a month ago and wont pass smog when first got the car I have 3 code total on the car p1166,p1167 and p1164. The original Airfuel riatio sensor I hade on the car was bad cause it cause the engine light to stay on all the time even I reset the code it turns on right away. then I replace a use air fuel ratio off a 2000 lx ulev sensor part number(192400-1000) then all engine light went away thought I fix it but about 40 miles in driving the other 2 code went away except when I ran the code it says 2 code found but only one showd up p1164 PD on my scanner not sure what that means. reset it again drop it for about 30 miles it find take to to the smog shop ran the scanner all are on but 3 wont turn on from the ECM drove it again then light went on again with same code. The mechanic is telling to change the PCM/ computer and get it program to the dealer that should fix it but it might not be the problem. It might just be the Air fuel/ Ratio. I called the dealer and they gave me p# 36531-paa-306 for the sensor is this the right one? Please help if anyone has experiance the same problem. of what you guys think is causing for that issue.
Thank you,
RIch

Honda part # 36531-PAA-306 is the correct A/F sensor part number. Denso is usually OEM, the Denso cross reference should 234-9014. Bosch should be 13512.

I would get the Denso 234-9014, as it is essentially the same part for less.

Thanks for the reply. Now hope this will fix the problem with out replacing the pcm by just replacing just the fuel ratio sensor.
Thanks

P1167 is an electrical fault in the heater circuit of A/F sensor. It can be bad heater element in sensor (check resistance of sensor heat pins), faulty connector, wiring fault, or faulty ECM/PCM.

If resistance checks OK at sensor, check again at ECM/PCM connector, and if again OK, the ECM/PCM is the problem.

I did not see a resistance spec, but probably about 10-20 ohms is good resistance.

good luck

Thanks for the reply! I was thinking about that too as well since the first time when I had the other sensor on with the code p1164 which indicate the PCM/ECU it took about 30 miles before the engine light turns on but the ECU all will not reset fully 3 of them are still off it wont turn on or fully cycle Thought I just had a bad sensor so I replace it with a new denso p# 234-9014 but the wire is to short but was able to make it fit. this time when I replace it clear code it turn on with in 10 sec with the code p1167 so Im confuse is it the sensor or the pcm?
Thanks

Start simple. Use a test light to check all fuses (each side of fuse terminals) and replace all fuses that are bad, if any as the A/F heated routes through multiple circuits. If not check the A/F relay continuity and lack there of. If you are not capable of checking the relay find another relay in the under hood fuse panel with the same PN and swap them. If the problem goes away, good. If not it becomes much more complicated, it may be the ECM, a problem with the under hood fuse panel, etc. Continuity checks are more reliable when dealing with A/F sensors then resistance checks IMO. Honda uses many of the same PN relays for different things so you should be able to find one on the car for experimenting purposes.

1. Since you stated the wires were a little short, disconnect and examine the A/F sensor wiring and connector terminals. The two black wire are the heater wires. -- After you disconnect and reconnect the sensor connector, reset the ECM/PCM and see if the code still exist.

2. Check passenger under-dash fuse no. 6 (20A), as that is the fuse that protects the A/F sensor heated control relay. The A/F sensor heated control relay is located behind the passenger kick panel.

Although driver's under-dash fuse no. 6 (15A) is also part of the relay circuit, if the driver's side fuse no. 6 was blown (which it probably isn't), you would have way more issues than just the A/F sensor.
