Default 98 accord v6 auto coupe, ignition key wobble

so thanks to you guys i now have 3, cb7, 90-93 accord, all running strong!

trying to help my buddy here.
His 98 accord is stalling, randomly while driving. after checking all i could, i noticed the key will move in the ignition, back and fourth (toward front of car, back of car) up and down, what seems like almost a quarter inch any which way.
i got it to stall while it was running by moving the key around.. bad switch..
question is, do i need to replace the entire assembly with new keys and all? or just the switch? the dealer gave me 2 parts, 2 prices etc.. they seem to think i just need the switch, but the key is moving so much in the ignition im thinking the entire assembly..

just wanted to hear some thoughts from fellas with experience with these
thanks

The electrical part is usually the problem and is replaced separately. East to access/replace.

Key switch mechanical assy may be worn, but I would start w/ electrical and see if that remedies the problem.

This is a common problem w/ many honda products.

good luck

You may want to run the vin to see if there are and open recalls. I remember one for the ignition switch.
